CONTEST WINNER ANNOUNCED

Sorry for the delay, but I am sure you all know how things just happen sometimes. Our winner is Snowberry Creek with the following post:

Snowberry Creek said...
Congratulations, Granny!!! How exciting...so happy for you. A precious little bundle to spoil! :)

I like the names Analeigh & Braylon. I like the name Blakely or McKinleigh for a girl...boys names are harder - Braxton is cute.

Know you can't wait to be a Granny, Nanny, Nana, MeMe, MeMa, Grammy or whatever. It won't matter what your called because it will fill your heart with love to hear any of them. :)

May 11, 2009 4:43 PM

Please send me your address and T-shirt size to militarymomz@yahoo.com. Thanks to all who entered!

T-shirt and cookbook giveaway!

Win a T-shirt and cookbook, simply by choosing your favorite out of the below names!!! I will draw a winner on June 14, 2009, which will be the Dad's 20th birthday! You get one entry for a girl's name choice and one entry for a boy's name choice. The choices were put up on a poll by the soon to be Mom (my beautiful daughter-in-law!!!)

GIRLS
A. Aubrey
B. Alyssa
C. Amberlin
D. Analeigh
E. McKinley
F. McKayla

BOYS
A. Gavin
B. Daylon
C. Dakota
D. Brawley
E. Brody
F. Braylon

I chose McKinley and Brody, although I would prefer Breck for a girl, LOL, unless it is twins, then my choice would be McKinley and McKayla for girls and I would have to think for twin boys names. My dil's grandmother is a twin, so maybe.... Give me a great UNIQUE name and I will give you another entry. It has to be something unique and different!

I am very excited about becoming a Granny! I loved my Grannies dearly and they were both amazing women and my mom is the best Granny in the world (as I am sure all of her grandchildren would attest to, although she is called JoJo, thanks to her oldest grandson). I am very honored to be joining the ELITE women called Granny (grandma, maw maw, nana, etc...)! You all know I am a part of the weight loss group over at WAHM Addicts, (which is a sister site of www.wahmaddicts.com) and I intend to further my goals so I can be in great shape to help take care of my first little grandbaby. All of you who know me, know how excited I am about this new addition to our family. Due on Christmas Day, so BAM, there is my Mother's Day present and my Christmas present all wrapped into one. WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

Military Momz places #80 out of thousands of contestants

Military Momz (www.militarymomz.com) VOTED ONE OF TOP 200 LEADING MOMS IN BUSINESS IN STARTUPNATION COMPETITION

ROME, GA - May 5, 2009 - Military Momz, www.militarymomz.com announced today that it has been recognized as one of the top 200 mom-owned businesses in StartupNation’s 2009 Leading Moms In Business Competition (http://www.startupnation.com/leading-moms-2009). The competition, sponsored by VerticalResponse, recognizes the achievements of mothers across the country who run outstanding businesses.

Military Momz, founded by Lisa Edwards of Rome, GA offers items of interest (variety of T-shirts, Remember Bracelets, flag pins and the newly released Military Momz Menuz Cookbook) to the public that allow them to show their support for the military. Lisa will generously donate 50% of all profits to organizations that aide the troops and their families at the end of the calendar year. You can view her site at www.militarymomz.com.

"Moms across America were honored in this year’s ranking, showing that they’re capable of starting and running successful businesses while managing to balance family, career, home and self," said Rich Sloan, co-founder of StartupNation."Well over 600,000 votes were cast in support of several thousand contestants. What an incredible achievement to be named a winner, and what an inspiration for anyone looking to start their own business.”

"It’s challenging for anyone to start and run a successful business – particularly in this economy. These women are setting the standard for innovation and creativity," said Janine Popick, founder and CEO of VerticalResponse.

StartupNation (www.startupnation.com) launched the first annual Leading Moms in Business Competition in January with the support of VerticalResponse (www.verticalresponse.com) to recognize the achievements of mom entrepreneurs across the US. Winners were selected and ranked according to public votes accumulated from January through March, 2009. The elite 200 win bragging rights, promotional support, and digital winner’s emblems recognizing their achievements as the Leading Moms in Business.

MY FIRST PURCHASE AS A GRANNY

Well, GREAT NEWS!!! I am going to be a granny, WOO HOO! I am so excited I can barely stand it! My son and daughter-in-law called earlier and told me! What a FANTASTIC Mother's Day present! I am hoping for beautiful twin redheaded granddaughters. My DIL's grandma is a twin, so maybe.... Brock said I could name them and he also said he would mail me the baby via airmail and let me have it. (No, not really, you would just have to understand that this has been a running joke between me and my boys for a long time.) LOL. He knows (well, who doesnt know???) how bad I have wanted a grandbaby. I told him if it was a boy, we would take it back and he said if I spoil him/her, they wont let me see him/her. My husband is laughing at me because I am already looking at car seats and strollers (yes, we went to the mall a little bit ago) and everything else I can think of. I have attached my first purchase as a Granny! Of course, my other 2 boys are excited about becoming uncles.

Prayer Request

I think I am fixing to pack for a trip to Nashville. My sister-in-law had an episode Saturday where she couldnt breathe and had chills. It apparently went away and then Sunday, she had another episode and an ambulance was called. Briefly, once she got to ER in Chattanooga, they diagnosed pneumonia and started IV antibiotics. Around 3 a.m., she took a turn for the worse and she was vented and sedated. Later Monday, her heart rate shot up in the 150s, put her on a med for that, didnt work, did EKG, showed abnormality. Did arteriogram, which showed a small blockage on a side vessel, but doctor didnt think that was causing this. By late afternoon, they decided to airlift her to Vanderbilt in Nashville. They tried taking her off the sedation meds today and her blood pressure shot up, so they put her back on a low dose. My brother said she opened her eyes briefly once during this period, but was quickly back out. Right now, they think it is something viral and it is affecting her heart.

Today, my brother sounded upbeat as they were going to take her off the sedatives and were looking for her to wake up. I was later told by mom that she had another episode, so the sedatives were given again. Please keep her, my brother and their 2 beautiful teenagers in your prayers!

Tired busy day

I am exhausted! We went over to my mom's today to help her clean out her old house. She has 3 homes on her property and I am talking about the house I grew up in. We are fixing to have it torn down, but I am not too sad about that as the memories I have are just too great!!! Oh, the goodies we found! I found my glasses I had when I was like 5 years old, love postcards from my dad to my mom back in the 60s, my mom's graduation pin and junior and senior banquet books, etc..., My little sister's favorite band T-shirts, (Alabama, New Kids on the Block and Billy Ray Cyrus). The dishes (and a ton to Tupperware) in the kitchen. We used to go to Tupperware parties all the time when I was a kid. We ordered pizza and chicken bites and goofed off and then went back to it. We are going to be able to have one awesome yard sale. But most of all, we created a new memory, as we had the best time, laughing and cutting up and just remembering. I know when we found the letters from my dad to my mom, it brought tears to all of our eyes. He has only been gone 2 years in May and one of my brothers, he has been gone 5 years in August. We cried a little, remembered a lot, laughed a lot and oh yeah, my mom was going to spank me for something, LOL. She is truly a remarkable woman and I hope my children love me and think of me like I do her!!! She is not only my mom, she is my best friend, with my sister following closely!!!

BUSY BUSY BUSY

Has it been 10 days since I posted? WOW! I have been super busy and I have missed my blogging. I love reading the other blogs and seeing what everyone is up to.

Today would have been my dad's 81st birthday. He passed away 05/04/2007. We all miss him so much! He was a great man, handsome, funny and him and my mom were just so adorable. They were married almost 50 years. My dad was in the Army. He actually lived close to my mom after he got out of the Army and they ended up eloping in Clearwater, Florida. She had went to visit relatives and he followed her there and they got married. We always loved hearing about he followed her to FL to marry her!

Rest in peace Dad! We love you!

Countdown is here and I cant go to CA :(

Well, the time is here. My son is on his way back to CA and I am not going to be able to go, which really makes me sad. I had so wanted to be there when his plane lands! But... Guess I will just start on the countdown until he gets leave to come home, which will be in May. Bummer! I so wanted a hug from him this weekend! They kept changing the times at the last minute. He was supposed to leave on the 19th, then the 11th then it was today. But... maybe things will work out and I will find a way to go. Just hope my inside source keeps me updated so... maybe I can be there!

Sunday, March 8, 2009

Just got word from my inside source.... LOL

Okay, my "inside" source told me they should be landing in CA on Friday, so needless to say I am looking up airline reservations, Amtrak, debating on whether to drive, etc... I want to be there so bad when my son steps off that plane. I doubt they will let us up there, but I can sure be standing down in baggage. Thanks to one of Brock's good friends, he is keeping me updated, so we can surprise Brock if things work out and we get to go! I must say I am very excited at the prospect of driving (I eventually want to go to every state in the US) and/or taking Amtrak, which we have never done before, but hey, an airplane is just fine as well. Whatever gets me there! I am so excited I can barely stand it. Just thinking about seeing the smile on his face when he sees us makes it all worth it. He doesnt think we are coming, in fact, told us that he would be busy and that it was okay if we couldnt so... guess who will be the loudest, crying the most, mom at LAX!!! I think it will be me! LOL I appreciate all the kind thoughts, words and prayers from you guys and will keep you updated!!!

Exciting news....

First and foremost, down to 8 days until my son leaves Iraq. We are weighing our options - driving versus flying versus taking a train. We have never taken a train before other than subways, so thinking about checking it out. Second of all, Military Momz is going to be featured in an article in an AR paper tomorrow. I also received a call this morning about being on a Chattanooga news program, a very popular station with a ton of viewers across the TN/GA area. I am very excited about all the above. I am going to be presenting a giveaway shortly also. Will post more information later! Hugs to you all!!!

Once I receive your comment, then I will leave a comment on your Blog and I will assign you a letter ( A - Z ) After you get your letter, do a Blog Post ( copy and past these instructions first ) then use the letter I gave you and write TEN things you love. Remember that each of those things HAS to start with the letter I give you.

Diane assigned me the letter P, so here we go !

1. Pleasure!!! Who doesnt love pleasure of any kind!!!
2. Playing!!! Again, who doesnt like to play. I like to play games with my children, play jokes on people and just play in the sun and at the beach.
3. Pie, chocolate pie. YUM YUM
4. Partys. I love a good party. Meeting and talking to others and hanging out.
5. Pizza - Pizza Hut super supreme with extra mushrooms, no onions, olives or peppers.
6. Provino's a great Italian place here in town.

10. Pink toenails. I love hot pink toenails or bright red.

Excited about so many things....

Of course, first off and the most exciting is the fact that it is only 9 more days till my son leaves Iraq. Second is that my business www.militarymomz.com is going to be written up in an AR newspaper on Thursday. I am so excited! I just spoke with a very nice reporter, and he said to check out his paper Thursday. I will post the link! One think I have learned over the past couple months is you have to keep pushing and working to get your name out there!

Today is husband's 40th birthday....

So what do you get the man who has everything? I mean seriously, he has me, what more could he ask for, LOL? We are taking him for lunch at an Italian place he likes. (They also give you a free birthday lunch or dinner, LOL!) He has all the manly "toys" so.... not sure what to get him this year. He doesnt like to get clothes. He just got all kinds of goodies for Christmas.... so I am at a loss as to what to give this year. Any ideas???

This is him at Halloween. We had some friends over and cooked a big pot of chili!

17 days and counting.... Come on MARCH 11

As I sit here, I think about seeing my son, whom I have not seen since the end of September. I can picture him getting off the plane and seeing his smile! I told him I would be taking a Greyhound bus to CA, LOL, but we will probably drive this time instead of flying. I would really like to take a train, something I have never done before.

I am watching Sanford and Son and it is funny. I love Fred. I remember years and years ago, watching this show with my dad. I just talked to my oldest son. He is sick. Wish I could take him some chicken noodle soup and baby him. He is very artistic and can also rap. He made a song dedicated to me and his dad and I just cried when I heard it! I let a friend listen to it yesterday and she loved it. Said he really needed to focus on this talent as he is really good!

My baby is spending the night with his grandma. She says he takes care of her. He is her legs at the store and helps her around the house.

I thank God everyday that he blessed me with such wonderful children; well, young men.

Startup Nation's Leading Mom in Business Competition

Vote For Us in the StartupNation Leading Moms in Business Competition

Please vote for me daily thru the end of March!

Dramatic jump, OMG, I am so happy - 18 days and counting

Just talking to my son on IM and he is leaving on my mom's birthday March 11 and should be at his base by the 15th, but wont be in GA until May 1. WOO HOO, I am so excited!!!! That is 8 days sooner than we had originally thought, although I guess I will be on my way to CA as I cant see waiting the whole month of April to see him!!! What great news!!!! I am so happy!!!

Check out this 100th post giveaway at......

http://justclosemyeyesnbreathe.blogspot.com/ This blog is greatly written and has some really great content.

An awesome gift! If I were to win, I would give the basket of goodies to my mother for her 72nd birthday on March 11. She deserves a special gift and the main attraction for her would be the UNO cards. She loves to have my sons spend the night with her and it is games galore. They watch the Game Show Network and play UNO and Phase 10. My son, currently in Iraq, has mentioned to her several times that he can NOT wait to spend the night with her and have his special BBQ Chicken (recipe featured in the Military Momz Menuz Cookbook at www.militarymomz.com) and play cards with her and watch the GSN. This would be a great gift for her!

27 days and counting

Okay, so we are in the 20s now and I am getting excited! Just thinking about seeing my young man is enough to bring tears to my eyes. So many people are already wanting time with him when he gets here. His dad, brothers, his grandma, aunt and uncle, cousins, not to mention all of his friends. Will I get any time with him? YES, lol, he has already promised me a whole day and we also plan to take a trip to the beach somewhere if we can... We also intend to have Christmas with him. We even left the Christmas tree up, just moved it downstairs into his old room. So... I am eagerly awaiting his return. Thanks to all of you who have joined me in my countdown!!!

Wednesday, February 18, 2009

Tomorrow we will be down to the 20s in our countdown....

Tonight at midnight, we will go down to 29 days and counting! This is so great. I cant wait!!! Just knowing he will be out of Iraq will get me through the days until he gets leave and can come home (late April or early May) IF I dont decide to fly down and meet him in CA, which I am seriously thinking about, LOL. But it gets confusing to me, like right now it is 9:57 EST time and where he is, it is 5:57 a.m., so actually he is already at 29 days, right? LOL, will he leave when it is actually still 1 day left here since they are 8 hours ahead of us, so am I really on day 29 now? Have I confused everyone as much as I am? Oh well, at any rate, it aint long now!!!!

Sunday, February 15, 2009

33 days and counting

Wow! It seems like so long ago, yet I remember it as clearly as if it were yesterday, that I stood at our hotel door and hugged my son bye. I tried not to cry, but... I failed. It is going to be so great to welcome my son home and give him a big hug and just squeeze him so tight. I am so proud of him and cant wait to tell him face to face. He called me the other morning. I always know when it is him because of the name that comes up on caller ID. It isnt his name, but a company name of a phone service I guess, but anyway, I always know my baby is going to be on the other end when I see that name. Well, I am fixing to make a trip out of town, but not too far. Just a 40 mile or so ride out of town and will see you all later tonight! Blessings to you all and I hope you have a wonderful day!!!

46 days and counting.... WOW

Time is getting close and I am getting excited. We have a lot going on right now in our personal life right now and I have been very stressed (one reason his base getting hit the other night) and my son spent almost 2 hours online yesterday talking to me and just being there for me. Being able to spend so much time with him, even though we are so many miles apart really touched my heart. It is like he knew I needed him, even though I never said a word. I asked if he was busy as he has a ton of friends and other family he talks to and I told him I didnt want to bug him. He said you could never bug me Mom! LOL - so I told him I could take him! He is very muscular and works out a lot and he gets a kick out of me telling him I will ground him for this or that when he comes home or that I could take him down. He would ground me if he knew I added this picture.

53 days and counting - Base was hit - cant come soon enough for me

I cant wait for Brock and our other soldiers to be safely at home. Brock told me the other day he had something to tell me if I promised not to worry. (okay, show me any mom who does NOT worry, lol) His base was hit the other night. I cant even imagine. We were all here, his dad, his 2 brothers and me and we were all extremely upset and worried. It was so good to hear from him afterward and know he was okay. I guess I got lulled into that sense of security since he is working on a base that apparently hasnt seen anything like this in quite awhile and he is so close to coming home. Now my panic button has risen again. I ask that you all keep everyone of our brave men and women in your thoughts and prayers!!!

AM Phone Call

Brock called this morning! He was fine, sounded great. I was getting a bit worried because we hadnt heard from him and neither had his wife, not since Thursday. (Technology is great, but when you are used to being able to talk everyday and then you dont see your child logged on for 2 days and also hasnt logged in and checked him myspace account, yes it gets a little nervewracking), but I try to keep in mind that the few times we have went more than 1 day without talking to him (which has only been about three times now) they had connection problems and/or he was just really busy. So hearing from him this morning was great. They had internet issues.

We got to talk for a bit before he had to go, which was really wonderful! I CANT WAIT FOR HIM TO COME HOME!!!!! We told him to send more pictures so I could update you guys.

69 days and counting in less than an hour....

Yes, I am on that daily countdown. I want to hug my boy so tight and then hug him again. I miss him so much. I get to see my other 2 sons almost daily so... I get to love on them a lot. It is hard to go from having 3 sons in the house with constant friends over all the time down to just one son left in the house, although he still has a lot of friends come over also. I know the lady at the grocery store use to tease me about feeding all the teenagers in our town. LOL. Those were and still are good days. I advise you all who have children at home to enjoy every minute. I always thought ALL my children would live near me forever, but it doesnt always happen that way.

73 and counting....

I cant wait to get a hug from my son and DIL. It seems like so long ago, I hugged him bye at our hotel in CA. I tried to be strong and not cry, but the moment he said, well, I guess we need to go. I lost it. I hugged him and my daughter-in-law so tight and just cried. Even though we have been able to talk just about everyday via IM and myspace and email, it is still so hard knowing he is so far away and in a dangerous place. I know God will take care of him and watch over him.

77 days and counting

Yes, I am on a countdown till I get to see my son. Although, he actually leaves the sand pit on the 19th of March, it will take him about 3 weeks to get back to his home base and yes, I plan to be there and meet him the minute he steps off that plane. It seems like it has been forever since he has been gone... I cant wait to see him and hug his neck.
